I’ve never seen a lover.
Or a mate or a partner.
I’ve never seen companionship
Or even fulfillment.
I’ve never seen a wedding.
Or me married to any.
I’ve never seen a romance.
Or a love to cherish.
I’ve never seen a family.
Or a happy ending
I’ve never seen me content.
Or any kind of happiness.
I’ve never seen a light.
Or anything burning bright.
I can see myself alone.
I can see my days growing old.
I can see my business aglow…
I can see success.
that part, I know.
Everything else…
a blurred unsure mess.
In my dreams there’s a daughter.
To love and cherish like none other.
A spitting image of me, her single mother.
Warm dark eyes…
Streaming midnight hair.
A crooked sideways smile.
Radiating her joy and wonder.
Sharp and clever.
She’ll be charismatic as ever.
With her mother’s saucy dry humor.
Dear lord, she’ll be a spit fire.
A beautiful bundle,
Innocence shines through.
Compassion will show
Kindness will bloom.
As she ripens…
Life lessons will too.
Adolescence, a taxing age.
Understanding the world…
Wisdom, she’ll believe....
Isn’t something acquired or gained.
defy and rebel.
against earthly laws…
Oh how I shall reflect.
For I did exactly that...
To my own mother.
She foretold me of this.
My mother, she did.
And so such events will come to pass...
Righted by honest teachings.
A stern hand, soften with a gentle gaze.
She’ll grow to learn…
Life holds marvelous grandeur.
As well as ugliness and sadness.
Tears she’ll let fall.
Cry and sob out.
Pray my heart be strong.
For when she crumbles.
Surely I shall catch her fall.
Days of old, devoted just for her.
Sacrifice if I must…
Gladly, for my needs are second to last.
Her happiness holds more importance.
Pray she may learn and grow.
Laugh and dance
Happily with ease and carelessness.
She’ll be my everything and anything.
My hopes and dreams.
A coming future at best.
She’ll be everything I’m not…
Everything I’m afraid to be,
Everything I believe and see not of myself.
Perhaps this is where,
my complement is to be found.
Where fulfillment plays a part.
Companionship of the heart.
Where my love and happiness is to surround.
Perhaps this is the family I envisioned.
Where a happy ending is to be written.
Perhaps it’s her wedding.
I shall be attending.
Where her young romance is to flourish.
Bond by a vow and a kiss.
A promise of forever.
Perhaps the present now.
Who I am.
What I am…
What I will become.
Will be everything meant for a later then.
Perhaps my life…
Is based upon her existence...
Perhaps my future.
Was destined and written…
An inheritance meant for an only daughter...
